The European Pressphoto Agency, or epa, will end its 18-year cooperation with Agence France-Presse and launch a new international service with the 13 remaining partners in May, the agency said in a statement Friday. The agency pools the daily production of its partners along with photos taken by epa's own network of staff photographers throughout Europe, reaching hundreds of clients worldwide. It has relied on AFP for photos outside of Europe.

The agency said it will set up its own international photo service using its staff photographers and stringers, in addition to developing strategic partnerships around the globe. In a statement on the breakup, AFP said the relationship was no longer balanced, saying it was supplying more pictures to the agency than the partners delivered to subscribers. As a result, revenues in Europe were growing five times more slowly than the rest of the world, the agency said.
